Introduction

At The Retina Clinic London, we recognise that persistent floaters can severely impact quality of life, making everyday activities like reading, driving, or screen use difficult. If YAG Laser Floater Treatment is unsuitable or ineffective, we offer Therapeutic Refractive Vitrectomy (TRV), a precisely designed surgical solution that restores optical clarity by removing the bothersome floaters that interfere with vision.

Developed through our pioneering research, published in the RETINA journal, TRV was introduced by Professor Paulo Stanga and his expert team as a safe and effective procedure for patients struggling with debilitating vitreous floaters and opacities (VFOs).

What is TRV and How Does It Work?

TRV is an advanced vitrectomy technique designed to remove only the central vitreous gel containing the floaters, while preserving the peripheral vitreous. The removed vitreous is replaced with a clear solution, restoring the optical homogeneity of the eye and eliminating visual disturbances.

By carefully limiting the extent of vitreous removal, TRV minimises surgical impact while maximising visual improvement, offering a highly effective and well-tolerated solution for persistent floaters.

Minimising Surgical Risks with the Latest Technology

At The Retina Clinic London, all TRV procedures are performed in our dedicated onsite surgical theatre, equipped with the latest operating microscope and state-of-the-art vitrectomy systems.

We have designed TRV to minimise the time spent inside the eye, significantly reducing the risks associated with vitrectomy, such as:

  • Retinal tears or detachment
  • Infection
  • Cataract formation

Our meticulous approach ensures the safest possible procedure while delivering life-changing improvements in visual clarity.

Is TRV Right for You?

TRV is the most effective treatment for floaters in patients who:

Have severe floaters that cannot be treated with YAG Laser Floater Treatment

Experience diffuse floaters that interfere with essential tasks like reading, driving, or prolonged screen use

Have debilitating visual disturbances that impact daily life and well-being

A consultation with our team will determine whether TRV is the right solution for your specific needs.
